Noland CarterHead of Heartwood Investment Management & Chief Investment Officer
Noland joined Heartwood in 2008. He leads Heartwood Investment Management and has overall responsibility for our investment management business. Before Heartwood, he was CEO of Rothschild Wealth Management (UK) and Global CIO of Rothschild Wealth Management. In 1997, he was appointed Global CIO at Barclays Private Banking and, between 1999 and 2005, was CIO of Barclays Wealth, where he established and was also CEO of Investment Services. Before that, he worked in institutional asset management at Ivory & Sime, where he was Head of Global Equities, and at Mercury Asset Management, having started his career at Save & Prosper.
Noland graduated from the University of Reading and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He is also a trustee of Moorfields Eye Charity, where he is chairman of the investment committee.
Michael StanesInvestment Director
Michael has responsibility for tactical asset allocation, but also manages client portfolios and runs our Balanced Investment Strategy. Michael joined Heartwood in 2010 from Soditic CBIP LLP, a London-based privately owned fund management business where he was CEO and CIO from 2008. In 2002, he started working for Goldman Sachs Asset Management as an Executive Director, managing global equity portfolios. Michael began his career in 1986 at Mercury Asset Management (subsequently Merrill Lynch Investment Managers) as a UK equity portfolio manager. In 1994, he moved to Tokyo to lead the Japanese equity team responsible for non-Japanese institutional clients and retail funds. Subsequently, Michael moved to the US, where he built a team running global and US equity portfolios for high-net-worth private clients.
Michael read law at the University of Oxford. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He is also a non-executive director of TP Income VCT plc.
Scott InghamInvestment Director
Scott has been responsible for strategic asset allocation and risk management since joining Heartwood in 2008. He also manages client portfolios and runs our Cautious Investment Strategy, and has co-responsibility for heading fixed income research. Previously, Scott worked at Rothschild Wealth Management and Barclays Wealth as a Portfolio Strategist focusing on developing and managing stochastic-based strategic asset allocation tools, quantitative models and efficient portfolio implementation approaches. His investment career began at Robertson Stephens International, where he became a Senior Equity Analyst.
Awarded a PhD in inorganic chemistry in 1991, Scott worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Cambridge University and then a lecturer at Edinburgh University. In 2000, he gained an MBA from Cass Business School. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
David AbsolonInvestment Director
David joined Heartwood in 2002 and was promoted to Investment Director in 2011. He is a member of the tactical asset allocation team and has co-responsibility for heading fixed income research. He also manages client portfolios and runs our Defensive Investment Strategy. David started his investment career in 1999 when he joined Rathbone Investment Management as an Investment Manager. He has also worked at Barclays Wealth.
David studied law at Bristol and holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. He is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Graham BishopInvestment Director
Graham joined in 2017 as an Investment Director and focusses on Heartwood’s investment strategy and Tactical Asset Allocation process. He joins Heartwood from Citi where he was the investment bank’s Global Macro Strategist from 2014 and held responsibility for Citi’s Global Asset Allocation views and Global Macro Strategy trade ideas. Prior to this, he worked as an Equity Strategist at Exane BNP Paribas and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Earlier in his career Graham worked for Caznove Capital Management as an Economist and Multi Asset Strategist.
Graham studied economics at the University of Exeter and is a CFA charterholder.
Jade FuInvestment Manager
Jade's role combines portfolio management with market research. Jade specialises in Asian and emerging market equities and she runs our Growth Investment Strategy. She joined Heartwood in early 2010 after three years of experience at Bank of America and Barclays Capital, where she worked in various roles in the capital markets including providing advice on investment and risk management solutions.
Jade graduated from Imperial College London with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and an MSc in Finance. She is a CFA charterholder.
Jaisal PastakiaInvestment Manager
As well as running our Income Strategies, Jaisal is involved in market research, with a focus on European equities and structured derivatives. Before joining Heartwood in early 2010, Jaisal started his career in 2007 as an analyst with Dresdner Kleinwort Capital Markets. There, he was involved in the pricing and execution of investment-grade financial, investment-grade corporate and emerging-market primary bond issues.
Jaisal graduated from University College London with a first-class honours degree in Mathematics and then gained an MSc in Finance from Imperial College Business School London. He is a CFA charterholder.
Charu LahiriInvestment Manager
Charu joined Heartwood in 2016 and has responsibility for alternatives research, where her area of expertise is illiquid, alternative asset classes. Before joining Heartwood, Charu was the lead senior analyst for Barclays Wealth & Investment Management’s private assets platform.
Charu graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a degree in Economics and is a CFA charterholder.
Benjamin MatthewsInvestment Associate
Benjamin works within the investment team and helps with both research and portfolio management. He is responsible for Heartwood’s Ethical Strategies and assists with the management of the Balanced Investment Strategy. His primary areas of research are ethical investments and UK and US equity. Prior to joining Heartwood in 2012, Benjamin gained experience at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management.
Benjamin graduated from the University of Durham in 2011 with a BA (Hons) degree in History and is a CFA charterholder.
Saajan MahbubaniInvestment Associate
Saajan joined Heartwood in 2014 as an Investment Associate. He is responsible for performance measurement and risk analysis. Prior to Heartwood, Saajan worked at JDX Consulting spending most of his time working with software vendors concentrating on sell side risk analytics.
Saajan graduated from University College London in 2012 with a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and is a CFA charterholder.
Matthew TomsInvestment Associate
Matthew works within the investment team and helps with both its research and portfolio management responsibilities. He supports the team in the management of the Cautious Investment Strategy, while his primary area of research is fixed income. Prior to joining Heartwood in 2014, Matthew gained experience at RBC Capital Markets as a member of the Global Investment Banking team.
Matthew graduated from the London School of Economics in 2012 with a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Economics. In 2014, Matthew completed his MSc from Warwick Business School. He passed the Investment Management Certificate in 2015 and has passed Level II of the CFA Program.
Jasmin joined Heartwood in 2014 as an Associate. She is involved in product development and product management, and also provides business management support. Jasmin project manages key product initiatives, having passed as a PRINCE2 Practitioner in 2015. Prior to joining Heartwood, Jasmin was at Accenture where she worked as an Executive Assistant.
Jasmin graduated from Bournemouth University and is currently studying for the Investment Management Certificate.
Poppy joined Heartwood in 2016 and her role is to provide assistance to the Investment Team and business management support.
Poppy graduated from Newcastle University in 2015 where she gained a first class degree in Marketing. She is currently studying for the Investment Management Certificate.
Head of Portfolio Implementation
Kevin DivallHead of Portfolio Implementation
Kevin manages client portfolios and is head of the Portfolio Implementation Team. He joined Heartwood in 2005 having previously worked at Adams & Remers and Thomson Snell & Passmore. Before that, Kevin worked in the Trust and Investment Departments of Royal Sun Alliance.
Kevin is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Damien McDaidPortfolio Associate
Damien works within the Portfolio Implementation Team and helps maintain client portfolios according to client strategy. Prior to joining Heartwood in 2015, Damien gained experience at HSBC Global Asset Management and Phillips Hager & North Investment Management in Vancouver, Canada.
Damien graduated from the University of Ulster in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Accounting. In 2012 Damien completed his MSc in Accounting and Finance from Queen’s University Belfast. He passed CFA level I in 2015.
Jonathan TowersHead Dealer
Jonathan is responsible for all dealing activity and liaises with brokers, market makers and fund managers to ensure timely, efficient and low-cost execution. He joined Heartwood in 2004 as part of the operations team before moving to the centralised dealing team in 2006 and was promoted to Head of Dealing in 2008. Previously, Jonathan worked for the client services department of Fidelity Brokerage from 1993, becoming a junior dealer in 1996.
Jonathan is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds the Certificate in Securities.
Anthony assists in the implementation and order execution of all trades in client portfolios. He joined Heartwood’s client services division in 2006 before moving to the dealing team in 2009. Anthony began his finance career in 1998, working for NPI as an administrator in the new business department, subsequently joining the bond servicing and claims department as a technical administrator.
